He also later worked as a writer and producer for television, including stints on “The Young and the Restless” and “Knots Landing.” before he moved to San Francisco in 1971 to work for the Associated Press. He began working as a newspaper reported in Charleston, S.C. Maupin family moved when he was young and he grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina.
